You can only use gbm_gralloc with custom built mesa, not drm_gralloc which is default. I have tried it before. Switch using GRALLOC=gbm in kernel command line. libgbm is built by mesa, optionally you can replace libgbm in system.

Idk about dark matter, I tested it on x86 Android 11 and worked fine. In October 12 update they bought back x86 version to support google play games, as a result it works on Android x86 based OS also now.

The CPU/GPU looks fine, but it's possible that there is other unsupported hardware in them such as Intel VMD. Do some research on the internet and find out if those laptops have issues running Linux.

Arc GPUs are not supported by darkmatter. They require a newer kernel and mesa than what darkmatter has.

Maybe. In android 7,9-x86 it will work. Since Android 11 or 12 you can't boot after modifying framework-res.apk in usual way due to some sort of signature/integrity checks by Android framework. Alternative methods using xposed/lsposed or magisk modules will have to be discovered.
