You may want to ask this in Android-x86's Google Groups instead, but here will be my own opinion
It's not dead, it just that the main developer like
Chih-Wei Huang is busy with other projects or busy with life. You know it took him a long while to respond to people post on the main Google Groups. There are other people still keep up with the development like Mauro Rossi or outside the main team like BlissOS (or maybe..... you can count us in lol) so the development is still keep going.
But the project definitely need more people to contribute, since there are many features we still missing and latest Android is keep changing day by day, so if you or anyone are interested you guys maybe can start doing something helpful to the project
