From my experience with connecting to external monitors with HDMI cable and other older cables

So far when monitor is a TV it will connect only with this code
#1 vga=788 video=LVDS-1:d video=1920x1080

And when monitor is just PC display it will connect by this code when HDMI
#2 vga=788 video=eDP-1:d video=1920x1080

When using older cables it only connected by using this code
vga=788 video=LVDS-1:d video=1920x1080

Did you guys got samiler result ?

Remove vga=788, it was deprecated in 2013 after grub 2 release
You also need the change the number in vga=788 to your monitors mode
